Right through the heart of it...Melbourne Melbourne

My fella and I just got back from a trip to Melbourne! It was such a blissful trip, we ate great food, shopped very successfully, drank fabulous drinks and most importantly got to see Josh's twin Jessie! (Do yourself a favour and have a look-see at Jessie's blog HERE.) Jessie being a now Melbournian knew some cute eateries, bars, markets and even cuter activites to take us too. We were very spoilt and had such a lovely trip, we love Melbourne a lot and I would be lying if I said I really wanted to come back home. I had some delish gluten free dishes, wild rice pudding and macaroons just to name a few :)

We stayed in Chinatown on Little Bourke, it was a good place to stay. Chinatown was always buzzing and a huge choice for eating, and so close to shopping, bars, the QV markets and all the amazing buildings in the cbd

Our friends Matt and Kim were in Melbourne at the same time. We decided to meet for breakfast at a eatery by the river aptly named Riverland. It was so cute and the breakfast was super lovely I'd definitely have the potatoe omelette again :)

I heart Melbourne.... I wanted a tee but Josh wouldn't let me.

Happy Birthday Cocktails!

It was Josh and Cam's Birthday not to long ago and to celebrate we went into the city for some afternoon cider, football watching, dining, dancing and cocktails! It was lovely to have most of the gang together for a big night, as we have been trying to be more 'adult' and not go out partying to the wee hours of the morning and blow all of the weeks hard earned cash, it was nice to have a 'big one' for the boys birthdays. As it was a special weekend so Rachelle and I booked hotel rooms as they're always fun :-) It was definitely a big, fun and eventful night! Not to mention the cocktails were delightful, that was one of my favourite parts trying delish cocktails!

I always look forward to a major event in our group whether it be a birthday, engagement or good catch up when we ALL get together. I love the breaking of bread with my dearest friends it just adds another fun layer to our catch up. It usually makes the boys much happier with full bellies, and comparing whose surf n turf or steak is the biggest and best (everything is a competition) and the girls get giddy over the foods presentation but more so having an exciting drink! The food is just a bonus hehe.

It was such a great night and here are a few photos-

I had a very good night as did all involved! I love my planteers :)

Zumboron Day

Only Adriano Zumbo could come up with the most heavenly day of all! Forget Valentines Day or Pancake Day! Say hello to Zumboron Day, a day where you are welcomed almost beckoned into try all of Adriano's Macaroons.... yes I said all. It takes place over east but my lord how exciting a day dedicated to the best dessert of them all. Please note- I use the word 'dessert' lightly, you may or may not see me with a Macaroon in hand before 9am. Now now don't blush we all have our little food indulgences!

While we are on the subject I do (wait for it) hold a torch for Adriano Zumbo, he is just so amazing. He has such talent and I would happily mow the lawn/ take out the rubbish if he was stationed/chained in the kitchen :-) I have been pining over his new book I haven't purchased as yet though. I'm almost too scared to try, you never know I could really destroy all that beauty in one wrong spoonful - I adore this little synopsis below!

"Join Adriano Zumbo on a whirlwind tour through his whimsical world of sweet treats. Learn how to create his Willy Wonka-style inventions, melt-in-the-mouth macarons with bold flavour combinations to sublime chocolates'. Inspirational and utterly irresistible, Zumbo will take you on a journey beyond the chocolate factory"

My aim is to make all of the recipes Gluten free friendly! Please Mr Zumbo take my on a macaroon ride... a whole new world!

My Favourite Joshua

It is Joshua's Birthday today! I always get really excited for his birthday, I love making him a cake, writing darling sweet little notes on the mirror in our bathroom and this year I splurged and bought him a personalised Happy Birthday balloon. I like to make a big deal, because when I first met him he didnt make a big deal about his birthday and wouldn't get excited at all. I thought this will change so everyday birthday (this will the fourth) I make it extra special and as we've shared more birthdays I can tell he gets a little excited. This year he actually tried the its my Birthday Week on me.... I am happy with his progress :-)

So Happy Birthday my Joshua, I hope you feel as special as you are and I hope you enjoy yourself. I feel so lucky to share my life with you and have loved every minute of it.

A few of my favourite memories... and many more to come

I love you Joshua.

an amber saturday afternoon

On a sunny lazy saturday afternoon myself and a dear friend Amber were catching up on all things lovely, giggle worthy, fashionable and delicious. We ate cake and sipped on our tea's and enjoyed a very good catch up at a dainty little cafe near the art gallery she works at. I must say I love Amber dearly and now even more so, as the gluten free orange and almond cake and chai tea were very good! Especially for a saturday afternoon when people have had way too many customers umming and arring over what meal and beverage to chose to accompany their delightful chats, catch ups, dates and gossips session with the bestie!

Amber and I get rather enthusiastic and usually draw some attention with our loud giggles and whats!! with exciting news that we share. And as we were finishing up the waitress asked if she could take our plates and... ( I thought she might have asked for us to be quiet) if in my personal opinion as a coeliac the cake was good or if i've had better. I felt a little special when she asked, and she talked with me about my opinion for over 10 minutes. I thought it was so nice someone really did care about the quality and taste for the gluten intolerant and/or coeliacs. Even if she hadn't of asked it was a very delicious afternoon date.

twenty fourth

Its was my dear mumma's birthday a little while ago, and I was debating buying her either a normal cake- she could enjoy or a gluten free cake that I could enjoy too. Thankfully my brothers dearest friend Mitch made me mum an amazing!!! Gluten free chocolate cake it looked absolutely beautiful and tasted AA-MAZING! He is a very talented young baker. We sat there and just stayed quiet, now for my family thats saying something. When we are all together the house is never quiet thats just how good it was!

Its cakes like these that make me thankful I am a coeliac!

"She carries too, the little bag of macaroons on which she nibbles"

On a sunny Sun-day, Joshua and I ventured out to town dressed in our finest spring attire, as the sun was warm and our faces beaming. We were looking for something wonderful and indulgent. We thought it would be a lovely addition to our many collections for our 'glory box'.  Little did we think that something as little as Macaroons would be the highlight of our day out to town. To many macaroons maybe far to sugary & colourful. But to me they do mean oh so much! They're gluten free which is just so special its a little slice of my coeliac heaven- I may or may not have indulged in three. But most of all they remind me of my favourite thing in year 11- English Lit. Haha yes I know you may have spat tea at your screen in a dramatic WHAT! but I loved many of the texts I got to explore in year 11 and one of my favourites was 'A Dolls House' by Henrik Ibsen. Nora the main character carries around a little bag of macaroons and nibbles secretly throughout the day. Its her little indulgence in a bleak life. I loved the idea of them being such a treat and was fascinated by them. I asked my teacher rather naively what a macaroon was and he promised to bring us some if we did well in the assignment! Well yes I did try my very first macaroon and wanted to saver every moment. I knew why Nora carried a bag of them!

So after a wonder and need for some food I came across a delightful cafe- Cimbalino and took advantage of their little collection of Macaroons. I had a blueberry and orange, lemon and lime and a ferrero roche. They were just lovely and perfect for a sun-day afternoon treat, and  Joshua also enjoyed them he did a lot of 'helping' to sample the macaroons. I think we'll be visiting town for my little bag of treats very soon.

Oh Why Hello Melbourne Town!

First may I say what a lazy blogger I have been! Now the guilt is over with here is the Blog! Earlier this month me and some dear friends ventured to Melbourne for a week of food, shopping, footy and taking all of Melbourne....well as much as possible! Let me say I had never been to Melbourne and I did love it big time. A lovely city full of history, vintage, gluten free food, art, lovely people and amazing little treasures hidden! I have a small collection of some food highlights and let me say if I had a good reason and was cool enough I'd move to Melbourne for the Gluten Free Choice they have really embraced the Coeliac diet! Such diverse options and everyone in hospitality knows what it is and can tell you and explain the things you can eat at their eatery. I really appreciated that because you don't get that type of range, knowledge and understanding in Perth.

This was my first breakfast in Melbourne! Oh and of course my first Earl Grey! Oh my was it the best thing I had eaten for a long time. We arrived in Melbourne just before 6 am, it was freezing and we couldn't check into our room until about 10am. We walked from Docklands to Bourke Street in search of somewhere open to eat. We stumbled across a lovely little French bakery that smelt amazing and looked so cute :-). It was warm and inviting ( but I think anything would be at that hour and in 2 degree weather). It was just what we needed and made me feel so warm and happy and set me in a super mood, like oh  I'm in Melbourne I'm so lucky- Imagine me with Snow Whites blue birds circling around my head hehe and I will neither admit or deny skipping away from the bakery.

This next place we went was AMAZING... well maybe not Joshua's meal -sorry Josh :-(
It was called Berth in Docklands it was situated on the water and it was so lovely inside, staff were friendly and knew all about gluten free! I choose the Lamb Shanks, best move ever! They just fell off the bone and oh just thinking about it I want more. So I would recommend Berth big time. We didn't book, it was a Sunday night, we waited maybe 5 minutes and meals came out pretty quick. This made us decide to splurge and get dessert, I choose the white chocolate brulee (gluten free) again best choice it was amazingly good!

The next day we decided to hit Flinders Lane and shop the city, but first we needed some energy. We choose Cafe Andiamo, the service wasn't very good but the chai tea was so good. I had been craving one all trip and finally after a long wait I received an extremely delicious Chai  oh my my. Josh had a wonderful looking Burger too, he said it was pretty good.

Please note just how good it was, I drank most then was like oh dear need to take a photo... then thought do I really need too haha.

On my way to Fitzroy and Jessie's ( Joshua's beautiful twin sister) house (Check out her lovely little blog Jessie's Blog) Jessie and I grabbed a delicious meal from a gluten free and vego eatery in Flinders Lane. I got a Pumpkin soup, now I love Pumpkin soup and this was the best, most mouth watering soup I have ever had. I didn't catch the name as I nearly fell over when I put the first scoop in my mouth!! Its so good, let me just say if I had to choose either this beautiful Pumpkin Soup lunch everyday or whenever I needed my fix or Kate Nash's Pumpkin Soup ( one of my fav songs)  I wouldn't be able to listen to it again. I would be very tempted to choose the Pumpkin soup, I know your laughing what really Adelle thats ridiculous but my logic is simple. I can sing Kate's Pumpkin Soup  every lyric is in my head BUT I will never be able to make Pumpkin Soup like that talented Lady down Flinders Lane!

I think you'll agree I may have a major crush on Pumpkin Soup and on Melbourne food. I will share a little more in a little while.
